similac ready to feed bottles -- how long is it good for?

Im supplementing with the 2oz similac ready to feed bottles. Right now he's only eating an oz. I do not use the bottle that comes with it instead I transfer the formula into another bottle.

The bottle says to throw it out after an hour because of the bacteria that is transferred by saliva can spoil the formula.  But if I'm using a different bottle and refrigerating it right after can I used the rest of it within 24 hrs?

@keim,

I think so but not sure. I called similac before and they gave me detailed info on freshness times for all their ready to feed and powdered formula. Give them a call if your not sure.

@keim,

with any bottle the second lo starts eating bacteria is introduced by back wash into the bottle, any unused formula should be tossed an hour after a feeding.

@lara_miya,

I was going to call but they are closed :(

@jmama713,

Sorry, I meant I am not using the ready to feed bottles that the formula comes with. I am transferring the formula in those bottles to a Dr Browns bottle that I have instead. So, my LO is not putting his saliva on the ready to feed bottles.

@keim,

Have you tried pouring one ounce in a bottle and sticking the rest in the fridge so the backwash doesn't even hit it?

I did the same thing at first before I left hospital they told me 4 hours in fridge

@keim,

I called and asked when she was first born. If you open te bottle but she doesn't drink out of it (only ready to made or concentrate) you can refrigerate for 24 hours!

@autumns_monologue,

Great, that's exactly what I wanted to know!

@laceyreeves,

thanks so much
